Caramelized Onions
Ingredients
Caramelized Onions
Instructions
Prepare the onions
Remove the peel. Cut the onions in half, then cut them into slices about ½ cm thick, so you end up with half onion rings.
Fry the onions
Set the temperature to 150 °C and add the butter to a frying pan. When the butter is melted, add the onions and salt. Fry the onions with a lid for 20 - 30 minutes, stirring about every 5 minutes (the more often you stir the onions, the fewer "dark" onions you will get). The cooking time depends on how much colour you want in the onions and the size of your pan.
Tips for this recipe
If the onions seem to get a little too dry while frying, then add a little more butter - they almost need to be deep-fried. It is difficult to specify an exact amount of butter, as it depends on the size of the onions and how finely they are cut. If you want to speed up the process, then add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and a little water to the onions to soften them.
